You’re probably already doing it without knowing! Whether you’re scrolling through Instagram, thumbing through a magazine or googling different keywords, it’s all a form of research and visually pre-shopping for your wedding gown before you even set foot into a store!

You’ll want to generally start trying gowns on 9-12 months prior to your wedding day. However, just like other large purchases in life, you want to go in with all the information you need and having done the proper homework. Read on for some tips on pre-shopping your gown below!

Google

Doing your research is just a jumping off point, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with styles and terms . Try starting it off by searching elements you’re interested in i.e. lace sleeve wedding dresses, illusion neck gowns etc.

Search for bridal shops in your area! I recommend using google maps and setting a radius. From there, start to look on each shops website and instagram to get a feel for the styles and designers they carry.

If you are unsure about a style or detail, make a mental note to ask your stylist to try it on! You truly never know what works until you physically put it on.

Pinterest also functions as a great search engine where all you will generate are images. If you find yourself re-pinning similar dresses, or gowns by one designer, head to the designers website to see the rest of their collection! While you’re there you can check to see if they have a stockist near you.

Think about shapes and silhouettes you wear in your daily life. Do you love your high neck sleeveless shirt? Try searching that in wedding dress form!

Full of all the wedding content your heart could ever desire! Once you have certain designers and boutiques you know resonate with you, follow them to stay up-to-date with new styles and potential trunk shows.

Following wedding blog accounts such as Green Wedding Shoes, Style Me Pretty and Brides will give you great inspiration ideas, as well as allowing you to see gowns on real brides (rather than models!)

Instagram also has a great save function where you can archive styles and gowns you’re loving to easily refer back to later!

Once you’ve effectively pre-shopped wedding dresses, you’ll be able to make educated decisions about what shops to visit and what styles to try. Remember, you’ve done the work, so you don’t need to try on every last dress in the shop. You know what you like. If there’s a gown you’ve re-pinned, saved on Instagram, and loved the moment you put it on? That’s your dress babe, you’re done.

Happy Shopping!
