Planning A Micro Wedding

SESS-239.jpg

The ‘micro wedding’ is one of those new words created for 2020, along with ‘quaren-team’ and ‘corona bride’. You might think micro weddings are the same as typical weddings, just smaller, and while you’re not wrong, it’s important to know micro weddings get to be different for every couple! There truly are no rules anymore, and all the usual wedding etiquette kind of gets thrown out. So therefore, you decide what you want regardless of tradition. All this choice can make it difficult to plan a micro wedding, so here are some tips to help you get started!

Venue

The freedom and creativity when picking a venue for an intimate ceremony is a huge benefit. Since there are no rules, why not exchange vows in an art gallery or a backyard? Make it thoughtful, starting with a unique venue. If you need some inspiration, check out our Places to Say I Do post to spark some ideas!

Guest List

Arguably the hardest, but the most important part. While this can fluctuate based on current state regulations, I think most people can say they wouldn’t feel comfortable going to an event with over 50 people (maybe over 30 if it’s held inside). So your guest list is the people you can’t imagine being without on your special day. Some may feel offended, so it is important to be confident and clear in your decision. If you really feel obligated, you can always set up a zoom link to live stream the ceremony!

Wedding Party

Similar to the guest list, this will be a decision you and your partner will have to make as some couples forgo a wedding party. You might consider having one special friend or family member beside you!

Pro-Tip: Establish a pseudo ‘day of coordinator’ like your mother, or maid of honor, to help you throughout the day! It’s still your wedding day, you shouldn’t have to worry about the minor details like TRANSPORTATION or set-up!

Officiant

This is key so you can actually get married! But with the guest restraints of an intimate ceremony, each person in attendance should hold a special place in your heart. This might be a professional or it may be a friend/loved one.

Food & Drink

What kind of menu do you want? If it isn’t obvious enough, food and sweets for smaller crowds means more options! Lucky for you, this can be as personal as you wish from specialty dishes to homemade cookies. Reach out to your favourite restaurant, and have it delivered day of!

Photographer

Everyone can agree on this one: we’re living through history, and you’re getting married in the midst of it! Hire a photographer you love to come and capture your day, you won’t regret it!

Reception

As with the venue, it doesn’t have to be a traditional reception. Your reception is whatever it means to you, and it doesn’t even need to include a dinner. If a champagne toast and some cake is your style, so be it! If that’s a bohemian inspired barbeque, then fire up the grill and crack open a cold one!

DIY Flowers

Go to your local floral shop or head over to Whole Foods and build yourself a flower arrangement, handpicked by yours truly. Remember, you’re writing the rules so have fun with it. If you need some help getting inspired, our Pinterest flower board has some gorgeous achievable bouquet ideas!

Embrace this new normal we’re living in! It can be a struggle to let go of the old wedding you had planned for months, but once you do, allow yourself to get excited about this new micro wedding! You truly deserve to still feel special, and still marry the love of your life. If you can manage those two thing, the wedding is a success!
